My Lola and I made it to Scottsdale, Arizona! I have to admit that this move was one of the more organized ones I've ever done.
I spent most of my 20's jumping from place to place with only a few suitcases, leaving behind belongings and furniture in favor of never feeling "tied down." After all, things are just that...we can't take them with us when we die and they surely won't love you back (jewelry aside OF COURSE). The people I often left behind were a different story; done so only in the knowledge that true friendship can transcend time and location. It's safe to say that there is no better test as to the validity of a bond, and I'm thankful for all of those friends who have put up with my wayward years.
I've always loved the romance in being able to pick up at moment's notice and go somewhere new without much regard to the details. Oftentimes, the longer we consider all the angles and outcomes, the less likely we are to take the risk. It's not that I don't look before I jump. You have to want to be on the ledge in the first place... I just tend not to linger in the "what if" or I would never do it. As a result, I've had some of the greatest adventures in life that ranged from exploring a jungle-covered temple in Cambodia to hanging in the glitzy hills of Los Angeles to the sunlight spattered streets of Paris. On the other side, I've also been labelled as "flighty" or "unpredictable." Honestly, I wouldn't have done it any other way. All those years of adventures, mistakes, and successes were integral additions to my sense of self, and my path as an artist.
As I approach my 30's, my life, my love, and my business have all started to create roots on their own, and for the first time in my life, I'm okay with this new-found bit of stability. Who knows, maybe I'll even buy a couch.
